Rising from the floodplain is the pre-historic plateau - the unmissable profile of Mount Oxley - that is one of the resonant features of the Back O’ Bourke landscape. Located on private property, access to the top of the mountain can be arranged, where undercover facilities accommodate small and large groups.
A visit to the Back O‘ Bourke is not complete until you’ve watched the sun sink into the western plains from the western escarpment, and puzzled over the unique crater-like assemblages on top of the mountain.
Mount Oxley does require a permit, as it is located on private property, which can be purchased from the Back O' Bourke Information and Exhibition Centre. The permit can only be obtained from the Back O' Bourke Information and Exhibition Centre, it is encouraged to purchase the permit on the day that you would like to go up as the code that is provided changes regularly.
